There are two types of art lovers
One person buys their art work from a big box store and then there are those who select original works of art that match their personality and perhaps a sofa.
But why does it have to cost so much to buy an original?
Let's look at what the artist makes from selling an original piece of work. Say it is a 9 x 12 inch framed landscape painting. The price of the painting is $380.00. Where does the money go?
Gallery Commission 40 - 60% = $190.00
Customer Requesting a discount 10 - 20% = $19.00
Framing = $55.00
Shipping or Travel = $25.00
Supplies (canvas/panel, paint, hardware, etc) = $27.00
Artist net profit = $64.00.
And the figure does not include any advertising, that is split 50/50 between the gallery and the artist.
The good news is the money spent on original art work goes to support not only the artist but the local businesses.
Seriously, as artists, we love what we do, and we are so happy to have those who support the creative side of all of us.
